The Blizzard of 1888

ree

It was January 12, 1888 when this disaster happened. It started off normal like a normal day. First, I went downstairs and had breakfast with my mom, dad and sister, Carrie. I was 11 years old then, and Carrie was seven years old. Carrie and I went to school after being at home for two weeks because of the heavy blizzard that occurred. It had finally warmed up, so we didn't have to wear our heavy winter clothing.

When we got to school, we started our reading lesson. All of a sudden we heard a loud bang on the roof. We ran to the window and saw the sky had turned black and it was snowing very heavily.

The men in our town realized that it was dangerous so they came to rescue us. The teacher had to escort us out to their wagons in front of our school. Then the teacher checked our name off of the list and told us to get in the wagon. As soon as I did, I remembered that I left my most precious item, my glass water bottle, on my desk. So I sneaked back to the school in the heavy snow ,but when I returned to where the wagon was, it was gone. That means I was left in the freezing blizzard. I tried to walk through the snow, but the snowstorm swallowed me. I couldn’t get up, my eyelashes froze because of the temperature m. Then I fell asleep and woke up in a person’s house which was actually my friend’s dad's house. He found me laying in the snow when he went outside.

Then he took me back to my house and my parents were so happy to see me but then later on the blizzard became more strong so some of the roof of the neighbors blew off. So some of us had to live in an underground house for a month. Then the whole town worked together and rebuilt the house. They also made it extra strong.

Therefore that is how it survived the horrific blizzard.
